On Friday night December 12th the Penn Yan Fire Department responded to a report of a shed fire on the Baker Rd. 1st Assistant Chief Simpson responded and requested mutual aid from Himrod and Dundee with tankers and also 1 pumper from Dundee to set up a fill site not far from the scene. Upon arrival 1st Assistant Chief Simpson reported a working shed fire 20 x 20. Engine 2 dropped 5" supply line at the end of the driveway and set up operations further up the driveway. Engine 3 set up operations at the base of the driveway and supplied the 5" for engine 2. Tanker operations were set up at E-3 using Penn Yan TA-18, Himrod PT-37 and Dundee PT-6. The fire was hit with the blitz fire and darkened it down but the fire flared back up due to 4 propane cylinders that were in the shed. The fire department managed to contain the cylinders and put the fire out. The fire it was determined was started by a pipe to the wood stove that was not fully installed. Rescue 5 also responded.

Emergency Squad Hold's Fund Raiser During Starshine

The Penn Yan Fire Department's Emergency Squad conducted a fund raiser during Penn Yan's Annual Starshine on 12/4/09.  The fundraiser is a result of the Emergency Squad's commitment to purchase a new Holmatro Cutters used for various rescue scenarios including auto extrication.

The department's current cutters will not cut through the newer metal used to make a majority of the newer automobiles.  During a recent training event it was determined that we were unable to cut through a 1994 Subaru Legacy.  The company raised $320 from this event and wishes to extend a gracious thank you to the community for donating to our cause.
