Around 2230hrs on New Year’s Eve Dresden Fire was dispatched to a reported house fire located on 70 Cornelia Street in the village of Dresden. Dresden Asst. Chief Warren Zimmerman went en route and requested and engine and man power from Penn Yan Fire. Dresden engine 25 called on scene and reported smoke showing with Dresden Chief Ted Cox confirming a working structure fire. PYFD Engine 1 arrived on scene and hand lines were stretched followed by Rescue M5 which established scene lighting. An aggressive interior attack was conducted. During operations two PYFD firefighters were injured. Lt. Bryan Housel was struck in the head by a blunt object and Steve Rapalee received a wound on his hand. Thankfully due to the full personal protective equipment both firefighters wore their injuries were minor. PYFD was on scene for more than two hours and responded with Engine 1, Rescue M5, 903, and 28 firefighters. Also assisting at the scene were Himrod Fire, Benton Fire (Fast Team), and Penn Yan Ambulance.
