Tuesday August 28th the Middlesex and Rushville Fire Departments were dispatched to a building fire located at the Rochester Folk Art Guild Complex. Upon arriving on scene a call was issued to Potter Fire for a full response. During their initial attack it was decided more manpower and tankers were needed at the scene. MFD then called Crystal Beach, Benton, Branchport-Keuka Park, Naples, Gorham and Penn Yan Fire Departments for Man Power and Tankers. A tanker shuttle was established from Lake Mitchell and a defensive operation was established to protect exposures including two full size workshops. The fire claimed most of the building but due to the quick work of all departments several exposures and contents were protected. The Rochester Folk Art Guild is a not-for-profit organization on a 350-acre farm. Guild products include wooden boats, clothing, graphic arts, pottery, woven textiles, woodworking and music. PYFD's Response included Car 902, T/A-18, Rescue M5, and several firefighters. Penn Yan cleared the scene around 1500hrs after a lengthy overhaul. |
